Disciplined Zǐ
Disciplined Zǐ (#FEAFE8) is a soft magenta with a pastel character. It reads calm and airy, with enough chroma to feel intentional rather than washed out. Its HSL profile (317°, 98%, 84%) places it in the highly saturated band at a light lightness. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. Etymology
Latin disciplīna, teaching / training — past-participle of discipline. As a color modifier, disciplined implies a clear-and-controlled-and-careful quality where the hue carries the visual register of careful-edited-and-restrained design-decision. Sits at the crisp-and-orderly end of the grid, parallel to methodical and orderly in usage.
Chinese 紫, purple — the imperial court color of the Tang and Song dynasties, derived from Lithospermum erythrorhizon (gromwell) and overdyed with Polygonum tinctorium. Zǐ color refers to a Tang-dynasty imperial robe field: a saturated, slightly cool deep violet with the silk luster of multi-bath gromwell-root-and-indigo overdye on tussah silk. Cooler than zǐsè (formal deep purple).
