Holographic Kunzite
Holographic Kunzite (#FE8FC8) is a soft magenta with a pastel character. It reads calm and airy, with enough chroma to feel intentional rather than washed out. Its HSL profile (329°, 98%, 78%) places it in the highly saturated band at a light lightness. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. For a confident two-color system, pair it with its complementary teal. For something softer, pull in its analogous neighbors on either side of the wheel.
Etymology
Greek hólos (whole) and graphé (writing) — adjectival suffix -ic. As a color modifier, holographic implies a saturated-and-multi-angle-shifting quality, the bright color of holographic-credit-card and trading-card dichroic-film 3D-image-reflection. Sits at the bright-and-shifting end of the grid, parallel to iridescent and prismatic in usage.
Pink variety of the lithium-aluminum silicate spodumene — first described from the San Diego gem-deposits of California in 1902 by George Frederick Kunz. The pink color comes from manganese substitution. Kunzite color refers to a faceted San-Diego-area kunzite: a saturated, slightly cool deep magenta with the glassy finish of manganese-substituted spodumene gem crystal. Pleochroic between deep-pink and pale-violet.
