Lit Murasaki
Lit Murasaki (#FDA7ED) is a soft magenta with a pastel character. It reads calm and airy, with enough chroma to feel intentional rather than washed out. Its HSL profile (311°, 96%, 82%) places it in the highly saturated band at a light lightness. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. Etymology
The past participle of light — short and modern. Used as a color word since the late twentieth century for hues that read as if they were illuminated. Japanese 紫, purple — historically the noble color of the Heian-period imperial court, derived from Lithospermum erythrorhizon (gromwell) root dye. Murasaki color refers to a Heian-period court silk kinu robe: a saturated, slightly cool deep violet with the silk luster of multi-bath gromwell-root dye. The word also names Murasaki Shikibu, author of The Tale of Genji (1010 CE).
