Old English trēowth, truth — adjectival suffix -ful. From the Latin praecox — early ripening — through the Arabic al-barqūq and the Catalan abercoc. The color is the inside of a sun-ripe apricot at the moment it splits open: a soft, slightly pink orange with the matte finish of velvet-skinned stone fruit. Lighter than peach, warmer than salmon.
