Latin refulgēns, shining-back — present-participle of refulgere, sharing root with fulgor (lightning). Caesalpinia brasiliensis — a Brazilian legume tree whose heartwood was the colonial-era principal source of brazilin dye, harvested at industrial scale from the Mata Atlântica and giving the country Brazil its English name. Brazilin color refers to a freshly brazilin-mordant-dyed wool: a saturated, slightly cool deep magenta with the matte finish of multi-bath plant-and-mordant-dyed woolen fiber.
