Searing Suede
Searing Suede (#FAB154) is a true orange with a neon character. It sits at the high-saturation edge of its family. Use it sparingly, as signage, accent, or highlight against darker surfaces. Its HSL profile (34°, 94%, 65%) places it in the highly saturated band at a mid lightness. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. For a confident two-color system, pair it with its complementary azure. For something softer, pull in its analogous neighbors on either side of the wheel.
Etymology
Old English sēarian, to wither — present-participle of sear. As a color modifier, searing implies a saturated-and-burning-touch-hot quality, the bright color of cast-iron-griddle high-heat surface-emission. Sits at the bright-and-warm end of the grid, parallel to scorching and blazing in usage.
Leather finished with the napped flesh side outward — soft, velvet-textured, named for Sweden (gants de Suède) where the technique was developed. The color refers to a tobacco-colored vegetable-tanned suede: a warm, slightly muted dark gold-brown with the velvet matte finish of napped leather. The Swedish cousin of cuoio.
