Holographic Kakishibu
Holographic Kakishibu (#F996C8) is a soft magenta with a pastel character. It reads calm and airy, with enough chroma to feel intentional rather than washed out. Its HSL profile (330°, 89%, 78%) places it in the highly saturated band at a light lightness. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. For a confident two-color system, pair it with its complementary teal. For something softer, pull in its analogous neighbors on either side of the wheel.
Etymology
Greek hólos (whole) and graphé (writing) — adjectival suffix -ic. As a color modifier, holographic implies a saturated-and-multi-angle-shifting quality, the bright color of holographic-credit-card and trading-card dichroic-film 3D-image-reflection. Sits at the bright-and-shifting end of the grid, parallel to iridescent and prismatic in usage.
The fermented juice of unripe persimmons — used in Japan since the Kamakura period as a wood preservative, paper sizing, and textile dye. Kakishibu deepens with age and sun exposure to a rich brick-red on washi paper or fabric. The color refers to fully cured kakishibu on a sunblind: a soft, slightly muted red-brown with the warmth of tannin oxidation. Drier than rust, more orange than maroon.
