Greek phōsphóros, light-bringer — adjectival suffix -ic. Stola color refers to an imperial Roman Livia-period stola: a saturated, slightly cool deep violet with the matte finish of multi-bath Tyrian shellfish-dye on Roman wool. Distinct from the unmarried-woman tunica and the slave colobium.
