Lit Kyomurasaki
Lit Kyomurasaki (#F59AF6) is a soft violet with a pastel character. It reads calm and airy, with enough chroma to feel intentional rather than washed out. Its HSL profile (299°, 84%, 78%) places it in the highly saturated band at a light lightness. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. For a confident two-color system, pair it with its complementary green. For something softer, pull in its analogous neighbors on either side of the wheel.
Etymology
The past participle of light — short and modern. Used as a color word since the late twentieth century for hues that read as if they were illuminated. Kyoto purple (京紫) — the warmer red-tinted purple of the Heian-period imperial court at Kyoto, distinguished from the cooler Edo-period edomurasaki. Kyomurasaki color refers to a Kyoto-court ceremonial kariginu hunting robe: a saturated, slightly cool deep violet with the silk luster of multi-bath gromwell-root-and-akane (madder) dye on woven silk crepe.
