Iridescent Hyacinthine
Iridescent Hyacinthine (#F499EC) is a soft violet with a pastel character. It reads calm and airy, with enough chroma to feel intentional rather than washed out. Latin Īris, rainbow — adjectival suffix -escent, named for the Greek goddess of the rainbow. Purple dye of late-classical antiquity, mentioned in Pliny the Elder's Natural History (77 CE) as a substitute for the more expensive Tyrian purple, derived from a combination of woad and madder. Hyacinthine color refers to a hyacinthine-dyed Roman toga praetexta border: a saturated, slightly cool deep violet with the matte finish of multi-bath woad-and-madder overdye on woolen toga cloth. Slightly cooler than Tyrian.
