Smoldering Rhodolite
Smoldering Rhodolite (#F04D36) is a true red with a neon character. It sits at the high-saturation edge of its family. Use it sparingly, as signage, accent, or highlight against darker surfaces. Its HSL profile (7°, 86%, 58%) places it in the highly saturated band at a mid lightness. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. Etymology
The progressive participle of smolder, to burn slowly without flame. Used as a color word since the late nineteenth century for the deep reds and oranges of barely-flame coal — the warm saturated darks where the heat is internal rather than emitted. Sits in the bold-and-warm corner, slightly less luminous than burning and slightly less calm than rich.
A pyrope-almandine garnet hybrid — the rose-pink-red gem mined principally in Tanzania and Mozambique, named for the Greek rhodon (rose) for its distinctive raspberry-pink saturation. The color refers to a faceted rhodolite: a saturated, slightly cool red-pink with the gem's signature internal life. Cooler than pyrope, lighter than ruby.
