Starched Trogon
Starched Trogon (#EFBAF1) is a soft violet with a pastel character. It reads calm and airy, with enough chroma to feel intentional rather than washed out. Its HSL profile (298°, 66%, 84%) places it in the balanced band at a light lightness. It works as a background wash, large-area fill, or soft illustration tone. Old English stercan, to stiffen — past-participle of starch. As a color modifier, starched implies a clear-and-stiff-and-formal quality, the crisp color of Edwardian-period formal-evening-shirt-and-collar starched-and-pressed dress-attire. Central- and South-American Trogon family — particularly the violaceous trogon (Trogon violaceus) of Amazonian-rainforest canopies, whose breeding-plumage males have iridescent deep-violet head-and-breast plumage. Trogon color refers to a Trogon violaceus male's breast feather field: a saturated, slightly cool deep violet with the iridescent satin finish of structurally colored feather barbs over melanin substrate.
