Spangled Lampranthus

Middle Dutch spange, clasp / metal-disc — past-participle of spangle. South African ice plant (Lampranthus spectabilis) — an Aizoaceae succulent native to the Cape Floristic Region whose deep-magenta daisy-like flowers carpet the South African fynbos in late winter. Lampranthus color refers to a fully bloomed Lampranthus spectabilis flower-head on a Cape coastal headland: a saturated, slightly cool deep magenta with the velvet finish of fresh ray-flowers around a bright yellow disk.
