Hot Quince
Hot Quince (#EE6E27) is a true orange with a neon character. It sits at the high-saturation edge of its family. Use it sparingly, as signage, accent, or highlight against darker surfaces. Etymology
Old English hāt, of high temperature — applied metaphorically to color since the eighteenth century for warm hues at high saturation. Hot pink, hot red: the implication is luminous intensity combined with thermal warmth. Sits in the bright-and-warm corner of the grid, alongside burning and vivid.
Cydonia oblonga, the rosaceous fruit cooked into Iberian membrillo paste, Middle Eastern abrikiel preserves, and English quince jelly. Too astringent to eat raw. The color refers to a ripe quince on the tree: a soft, slightly muted yellow-orange with the matte finish of fuzzy fruit skin. Drier than apricot.
