Incandescent Persimmon
Incandescent Persimmon (#EC5B06) is a true orange with a neon character. It sits at the high-saturation edge of its family. Use it sparingly, as signage, accent, or highlight against darker surfaces. Latin incandēscēns, growing-hot — present-participle of incandēscere, sharing root with candere (to shine). As a color modifier, incandescent implies a saturated-and-glowing-hot quality, the bright color of tungsten-filament-glow incandescent-lamp light. Sits at the bright-and-warm end of the grid, parallel to glowing and blazing in usage.
Diospyros kaki, the East Asian persimmon — a fruit eaten ripe from the tree in Japan since at least the eighth century, where its color is named kaki-iro. The fall color of the unblemished astringent fruit: a dense, slightly red orange with the velvet finish of a wax-skinned Hachiya. Closer to maple syrup than to citrus, with the patient warmth of a fruit that takes a hard frost to sweeten.
