The past participle of light — short and modern. Used as a color word since the late twentieth century for hues that read as if they were illuminated. Citrus medica, the ancestral citrus from which lemons, limes, and oranges all descend through hybridization. The fruit reached Europe before lemons and gave its name to the pale, slightly green yellow of its thick rind.
