Latin resonāre, to echo back — present-participle of resound. Diospyros kaki, the East Asian persimmon — a fruit eaten ripe from the tree in Japan since at least the eighth century, where its color is named kaki-iro. Closer to maple syrup than to citrus, with the patient warmth of a fruit that takes a hard frost to sweeten.
