Electric Tahini

Etymology
From the Greek elektron, amber — the substance whose static-electric properties were observed by Thales of Miletus. Used as a color modifier since the late nineteenth century after electric light made certain saturated colors feel attention-demanding. The Levantine sesame-seed paste — ground roasted sesame, the foundation of baba ganoush, halva, and many Middle Eastern sauces. The color refers to fresh-stirred tahini in a small bowl: a soft, slightly warm cream-tan with the slightly oily matte finish of ground oilseed.
