Cool Citron
Cool Citron (#E0F5BD) is a soft lime with a pastel character. It reads calm and airy, with enough chroma to feel intentional rather than washed out. Its HSL profile (83°, 74%, 85%) places it in the balanced band at a light lightness. It works as a background wash, large-area fill, or soft illustration tone. Etymology
Old English cōl, of low temperature — used as a color modifier as the complement to warm. Cool gray, cool blue: the optical impression of a slight blue-green shift, even within otherwise warm or neutral hues. Sits across the crisp, hushed, pale, and neutral buckets.
Citrus medica, the ancestral citrus from which lemons, limes, and oranges all descend through hybridization. The fruit reached Europe before lemons and gave its name to the pale, slightly green yellow of its thick rind. Cooler than lemon, lighter than chartreuse, with the candied aroma of the Jewish etrog and the medieval European preference for the rind over the flesh. Cédrat in French; cedro in Italian.
