Spectral Kuchinashi (#E06903) is a true orange with a neon character. It sits at the high-saturation edge of its family. Use it sparingly, as signage, accent, or highlight against darker surfaces. Latin spectrum, appearance — adjectival suffix -al. As a color modifier, spectral implies a saturated-and-rainbow-decomposed-and-pure quality, the bright color of Newton-prism sunlight-decomposed seven-color spectrum band. Gardenia jasminoides — the gardenia plant, whose dried fruit yields a yellow-orange dye used in Japanese textile and food coloring (yellow rice, pickled radish). Kuchinashi-iro refers to a soft, slightly muted gold-orange. The color is kuchinashi-dyed silk: a warm, slightly muted yellow-orange with the matte finish of plant-derived pigment. Cooler than saffron, drier than goldenrod.
