Refulgent Polygala

#db5fb2
Notes

Refulgent Polygala (#DB5FB2) is a true magenta with a cool character. It leans cool, sitting on the blue, green, and violet side of the wheel. Quiet and dependable, a fit for product UI and data visualization. Its HSL profile (320°, 63%, 62%) places it in the balanced band at a mid lightness. It works across type, buttons, and borders, saturated enough to feel deliberate but balanced enough to not fight the rest of the palette. For a confident two-color system, pair it with its complementary green. For something softer, pull in its analogous neighbors on either side of the wheel.

Etymology

Refulgent
adjective

Latin refulgēns, shining-back — present-participle of refulgere, sharing root with fulgor (lightning). As a color modifier, refulgent implies a saturated-and-reflective-shining quality, the bright color of polished-bronze-and-armor reflective-surface mid-day-sun reflection. Sits at the bright-and-saturated end of the grid, parallel to effulgent and resplendent in usage.

Polygala
noun

Eurasian milkwort (Polygala myrtifolia) — a Polygalaceae evergreen shrub native to South Africa cultivated worldwide as a Mediterranean garden plant for its deep-magenta keel-shaped flowers in axial racemes. Polygala color refers to a fully bloomed Polygala myrtifolia keel-flower on a Cape Floristic Region shrub: a saturated, slightly cool deep magenta with the velvet finish of fresh keel-shaped legume-form flower. The Greek poly-gala means much milk.
