Old English on-glōwan, on-glow — sharing root with glow and gleam. Sits at the bright-and-warm end of the grid, parallel to glowing and aflame in usage.
From the Old French rousset, reddish-brown. A medieval term for the coarse, undyed wool of peasant cloth — the natural red-brown of the local fleece.
