Lit Coquille
Lit Coquille (#DA57BA) is a true magenta with a cool character. It leans cool, sitting on the blue, green, and violet side of the wheel. The past participle of light — short and modern. Used as a color word since the late twentieth century for hues that read as if they were illuminated. French coquille, shell — particularly the coquille Saint-Jacques (Pecten maximus, scallop shell) whose interior surface displays a deep-magenta-to-pink iridescent nacre. Coquille color refers to a freshly opened Pecten maximus shell-interior in raking light: a saturated, slightly cool deep magenta with the iridescent satin finish of structurally colored aragonite-nacre. The shell is the heraldic symbol of Saint James of Compostela.
