Alit Amethyst
Alit Amethyst (#CE7BEE) is a soft violet with a cool character. It leans cool, sitting on the blue, green, and violet side of the wheel. Quiet and dependable, a fit for product UI and data visualization. Its HSL profile (283°, 77%, 71%) places it in the highly saturated band at a light lightness. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. Etymology
Old English ā-lihtan, to alight — past-participle of alight. As a color modifier, alit implies a saturated-and-just-illuminated quality, the bright color of evening-streetlamp and Christmas-tree-light freshly-switched-on emission. Sits at the bright-and-warm end of the grid, parallel to aflame and aglow in usage.
A purple variety of quartz, colored by iron impurities and irradiation — the gem of February birthdays, the bishop's ring stone, the bowl of Roman wine cups (the Greeks believed it prevented drunkenness, and the name amethystos means not drunk). The color refers to a polished amethyst cabochon: a saturated, slightly red-shifted deep purple with the gem's signature internal life. Cooler than orchid, deeper than lilac.
