Etymology

Saturated
adjective

From the Latin saturatus, past participle of saturare, to fill. A technical color term in modern usage — saturation is one of the three axes of HSL (with hue and lightness). As a modifier, saturated implies that the hue is at or near its maximum chromatic intensity. Sits at the bold-and-bright top of the grid.

Veronese
noun

Paolo Veronese, the Venetian Renaissance painter (1528–1588) whose deep saturated reds and warm flesh tones defined Venetian-school color. Veronese red refers to the dominant red in The Marriage at Cana: a saturated, slightly cool deep red with the matte finish of pigment-in-oil over Venetian gesso. Deeper than crimson, warmer than burgundy.
