Lit Kyomurasaki
Lit Kyomurasaki (#CA8CF4) is a soft indigo with a cool character. It leans cool, sitting on the blue, green, and violet side of the wheel. Quiet and dependable, a fit for product UI and data visualization. Its HSL profile (276°, 83%, 75%) places it in the highly saturated band at a light lightness. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. For a confident two-color system, pair it with its complementary lime. For something softer, pull in its analogous neighbors on either side of the wheel.
Etymology
The past participle of light — short and modern. Used as a color word since the late twentieth century for hues that read as if they were illuminated. Lit yellow, lit pink: the implication is luminance combined with the slight optical impression of an internal light source. Sits in the bright-bucket extreme alongside electric.
Kyoto purple (京紫) — the warmer red-tinted purple of the Heian-period imperial court at Kyoto, distinguished from the cooler Edo-period edomurasaki. Kyomurasaki color refers to a Kyoto-court ceremonial kariginu hunting robe: a saturated, slightly cool deep violet with the silk luster of multi-bath gromwell-root-and-akane (madder) dye on woven silk crepe.
