Spangled Huáng
Spangled Huáng (#BF8502) is a true amber with a jewel character. It carries the deep, saturated richness of a gemstone. Authoritative and slightly formal, it works well for type and heavy UI elements. Its HSL profile (42°, 98%, 38%) places it in the highly saturated band at a mid lightness. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. Etymology
Middle Dutch spange, clasp / metal-disc — past-participle of spangle. As a color modifier, spangled implies a saturated-and-multi-point-reflective quality, the bright color of American-flag-stars and sequined-fabric metallic-disc-and-jewel-decoration. Sits at the bright-and-reflective end of the grid, parallel to glittering and sequined in usage.
The Chinese word for yellow — the imperial color of the Ming and Qing dynasties, reserved for the emperor's robes and the glazed-tile roofs of the Forbidden City. Huáng is also one of the five Chinese cardinal colors, corresponding to the center, late summer, and the dragon. The color refers to huánglóngpáo (yellow imperial dragon robe) silk: a saturated, slightly cool deep gold-yellow with the satin finish of dyed silk.
