Phosphorescent Stichtite
Phosphorescent Stichtite (#BE7FF7) is a soft indigo with a cool character. It leans cool, sitting on the blue, green, and violet side of the wheel. Quiet and dependable, a fit for product UI and data visualization. Its HSL profile (272°, 88%, 73%) places it in the highly saturated band at a light lightness. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. For a confident two-color system, pair it with its complementary lime. For something softer, pull in its analogous neighbors on either side of the wheel.
Etymology
Greek phōsphóros, light-bringer — adjectival suffix -escent. As a color modifier, phosphorescent implies a saturated-and-cool-glow-after-stimulation quality, the bright cool-green-blue color of Cu-doped-ZnS glow-in-the-dark photoluminescent surfaces. Sits at the bright-and-cool end of the grid, parallel to fluorescent and luminous in usage.
Rare violet-pink chromium-bearing mineral first described from the Dundas deposits of Tasmania in 1910 by Robert Sticht. Stichtite color refers to a polished Dundas stichtite-and-serpentine cabochon: a saturated, slightly cool deep violet with the silky finish of fibrous magnesium-chromium hydroxide-carbonate. The mineral is the chromium-substituted analog of brugnatellite, valued in lapidary work for its banded color.
