Neon Citron
Neon Citron (#BDB005) is a true yellow with a jewel character. It carries the deep, saturated richness of a gemstone. Authoritative and slightly formal, it works well for type and heavy UI elements. Its HSL profile (56°, 95%, 38%) places it in the highly saturated band at a mid lightness. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. For a confident two-color system, pair it with its complementary blue. For something softer, pull in its analogous neighbors on either side of the wheel.
Etymology
Greek néon, new — element-name (atomic-number 10), discovered by William Ramsay in 1898. As a color modifier, neon implies a saturated-and-electric-glow quality, the bright color of Las-Vegas-and-Times-Square neon-marquee gas-discharge-tube emission. Sits at the bright-and-electric end of the grid, parallel to electric and fluorescent in usage.
Citrus medica, the ancestral citrus from which lemons, limes, and oranges all descend through hybridization. The fruit reached Europe before lemons and gave its name to the pale, slightly green yellow of its thick rind. Cooler than lemon, lighter than chartreuse, with the candied aroma of the Jewish etrog and the medieval European preference for the rind over the flesh. Cédrat in French; cedro in Italian.
