Cool Charoite
Cool Charoite (#B79BF4) is a soft indigo with a pastel character. It reads calm and airy, with enough chroma to feel intentional rather than washed out. Its HSL profile (259°, 80%, 78%) places it in the highly saturated band at a light lightness. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. For a confident two-color system, pair it with its complementary lime. For something softer, pull in its analogous neighbors on either side of the wheel.
Etymology
Old English cōl, of low temperature — used as a color modifier as the complement to warm. Cool gray, cool blue: the optical impression of a slight blue-green shift, even within otherwise warm or neutral hues. Sits across the crisp, hushed, pale, and neutral buckets.
Russian violet-banded mineral mined exclusively along the Chara River in Yakutia, eastern Siberia, since the 1940s. Charoite color refers to a polished Yakutian charoite cabochon: a saturated, slightly cool deep blue-violet with the silky chatoyant finish of fibrous strontium-potassium-calcium silicate. The only deep-violet mineral mined commercially in Russia, valued for its complex banded patterning.
