Earnest Suoh
Earnest Suoh (#AB1137) is a true red with a jewel character. It carries the deep, saturated richness of a gemstone. Authoritative and slightly formal, it works well for type and heavy UI elements. Old English eornost, seriousness, zeal. Used as a color modifier since the nineteenth century for hues that read as committed but unshowy — the working blues of denim, the deep greens of Quaker meetinghouses. The Japanese name for sappanwood — Caesalpinia sappan — a Southeast Asian dye source whose heartwood yields a deep red traditionally used in the lining of formal kimono and the inks of Edo-period woodblock printing. The color refers to a fresh suoh-dyed silk: a deep, slightly cool red with the wood-derived warmth of brazilin pigment. Cooler than enji, deeper than akane.
