Composed Carnelian
Composed Carnelian (#A80D0D) is a true red with a jewel character. It carries the deep, saturated richness of a gemstone. Authoritative and slightly formal, it works well for type and heavy UI elements. Its HSL profile (0°, 86%, 35%) places it in the highly saturated band at a mid lightness. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. Etymology
The past participle of compose, to arrange together — used as a color modifier for hues that read as deliberate and balanced. A translucent variety of chalcedony tinted by trace iron, carnelian was the seal stone of the ancient world — Roman intaglios, Indus Valley etched beads, the breastplate of the Israelite high priest.
