Forthright Erodium

#a56be1
Notes

Forthright Erodium (#A56BE1) is a true indigo with a vibrant character. It holds its own as a focal accent, carrying visual weight without tipping into neon territory. Its HSL profile (269°, 66%, 65%) places it in the balanced band at a mid lightness. It works across type, buttons, and borders, saturated enough to feel deliberate but balanced enough to not fight the rest of the palette. For a confident two-color system, pair it with its complementary lime. For something softer, pull in its analogous neighbors on either side of the wheel.

Etymology

Forthright
adjective

Old English forð-riht, straight ahead, direct. Used as a color modifier in Anglo-Saxon-revival contexts for hues that read as honest and unguarded. Forthright red, forthright blue: the saturation is full, the hue is presented without ornamentation or qualification. Sits in the bold-bucket center alongside frank and direct.

Erodium
noun

Eurasian storksbill (Erodium cicutarium) — a Geraniaceae annual with deep-violet five-petaled cup-flowers and the long-pointed seed-pod shaped like a stork's bill. Erodium color refers to a fully bloomed Erodium cicutarium cup-flower: a saturated, slightly cool deep violet with the velvet finish of fresh small five-petaled cup-corollas. The genus name comes from the Greek erōdios (heron), after the seed-pod shape.
