Stately Russet
Stately Russet (#A23A15) is a true orange with a jewel character. It carries the deep, saturated richness of a gemstone. Authoritative and slightly formal, it works well for type and heavy UI elements. Its HSL profile (16°, 77%, 36%) places it in the highly saturated band at a mid lightness. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. Etymology
An adjectival form of state, condition of dignity. Used as a color modifier since the seventeenth century for the deep saturated jewel tones of formal ceremony — the deep blue of a robes-of-state, the deep red of a state-banquet velvet. Sits in the bold-and-formal corner alongside imperial and royal, with slightly less institutional weight.
From the Old French rousset, reddish-brown. A medieval term for the coarse, undyed wool of peasant cloth — the natural red-brown of the local fleece. The color now refers to autumn foliage, the skin of a russet potato, the rust-stained sandstone of the American southwest. Earthier than rust, drier than mahogany; the red of October.
