Old French hardi, bold / brave — past-participle of hardir (to make brave). Tulum color refers to a Tulum-period Mayan mural-fragment from the Templo de los Frescos: a saturated, slightly cool deep magenta with the matte finish of cochineal-and-cinnabar pigment on lime-plaster wall.
