Caffeinated Lazurite (#9878FF) is a soft indigo with a cool character. It leans cool, sitting on the blue, green, and violet side of the wheel. Modern French caféine — past-participle of caffeinate. As a color modifier, caffeinated implies a saturated-and-jumpy-and-active quality, the bright color of Red-Bull-and-Monster energy-drink-can label-design saturated-and-energizing palette. The principal mineral of lapis lazuli — a sodium-aluminum sulfate-silicate from the Sar-e-Sang mines in Badakhshan province of northeastern Afghanistan, the Renaissance source for ultramarine pigment. Lazurite color refers to a freshly cut Sar-e-Sang lapis face showing the central lazurite nucleus: a saturated, slightly cool deep blue-violet with the matte finish of pyrite-flecked lazurite ore.
