Torrid Kalmia
Torrid Kalmia (#957AFD) is a soft indigo with a cool character. It leans cool, sitting on the blue, green, and violet side of the wheel. Quiet and dependable, a fit for product UI and data visualization. Its HSL profile (252°, 97%, 74%) places it in the highly saturated band at a light lightness. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. Latin torridus, parched / scorching — sharing root with torrēre (to dry by heat). North American mountain laurel (Kalmia latifolia) — an Ericaceae evergreen shrub native to Appalachia, with cup-shaped pink-and-violet pentahedral flowers in late spring. Kalmia color refers to a fully bloomed Kalmia latifolia corymb: a saturated, slightly cool deep blue-violet with the velvet finish of fused-petaled cup flowers around a tense ring of bow-loaded stamens. Named for Pehr Kalm, Linnaeus's Swedish-Finnish student-botanist.
