Italian bastionato, fortified-with-bastions — past-participle of bastion, derived from bastia (fortified-tower). The genus Morus — the white mulberry (M. alba) feeds silkworms; the black mulberry (M. nigra) bears the deep purple fruit that stains everything it touches.
