Latin refulgēns, shining-back — present-participle of refulgere, sharing root with fulgor (lightning). The family Nectariniidae — Old World sunbirds, the ecological equivalent of New World hummingbirds. Particularly Cinnyris jugularis (olive-backed sunbird) whose iridescent green throat catches direct sunlight.
