Latin refulgēns, shining-back — present-participle of refulgere, sharing root with fulgor (lightning). Bukhara color refers to the deep-blue tilework of Bukhara's 15th-century Po-i-Kalyan madrasa: a saturated, slightly cool deep blue-violet with the glossy finish of cobalt-and-indigo-glazed Timurid ceramic.
