Buttressed Bixbite (#870147) is a deep magenta with a jewel character. It carries the deep, saturated richness of a gemstone. Old French bouterez, thrusting-mass — past-participle of buttress, derived from bouter (to thrust). As a color modifier, buttressed implies a saturated-and-architecturally-supported quality, the deep-rich color of Gothic-Cathedral flying-buttress-and-rib-vault stone-architecture. Sits at the bold-and-fortified end of the grid, parallel to fortified and reinforced.
An extremely rare red variety of beryl — found principally in the Wah Wah Mountains of Utah and the Thomas Range. Often called red emerald in the trade. The color refers to a faceted bixbite: a saturated, slightly cool deep red with the gem's signature internal life. Cooler than ruby, deeper than spinel.
