Bright Aztec Peridot

Old English beorht, shining, luminous — cognate with the German Bracht, splendor. Applied to color since at least the medieval period for hues that read as luminous: not just light in value but optically active, as if scattering more light back than a dimmer color of the same lightness would. Sits at the bright-bucket center alongside vivid and brilliant.

Nahuatl Aztēcatl, one-from-Aztlán. As a color modifier, aztec implies a Mexica-and-Tenochtitlan-Imperial quality, the visual register of Aztec-Empire-of-Tenochtitlan hand-built basalt-and-obsidian-and-feather-and-codex Aztec-Imperial-and-Mexica-tribute surfaces under high-altitude Tenochtitlan Aztec-Empire central-Mexico mid-altitude light. Sits at the modifier-and-cultural end of the grid, parallel to inca and toltec in usage.

The transparent green variety of olivine — the gem mined from Egyptian Zabargad Island since pharaonic times and now from arid mountain ranges in Pakistan, Arizona, and Vietnam. The color refers to a faceted peridot: a clean, slightly yellow-shifted green with the gem's signature internal warmth. Lighter than emerald, brighter than olivine in its rough state, with the unusual gem-trade quality of being one of the few minerals that occurs in only one color.
