Stately Coquille
Stately Coquille (#810B60) is a deep magenta with a jewel character. It carries the deep, saturated richness of a gemstone. Authoritative and slightly formal, it works well for type and heavy UI elements. Its HSL profile (317°, 84%, 27%) places it in the highly saturated band at a dark lightness. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. Etymology
An adjectival form of state, condition of dignity. Used as a color modifier since the seventeenth century for the deep saturated jewel tones of formal ceremony — the deep blue of a robes-of-state, the deep red of a state-banquet velvet. Sits in the bold-and-formal corner alongside imperial and royal, with slightly less institutional weight.
French coquille, shell — particularly the coquille Saint-Jacques (Pecten maximus, scallop shell) whose interior surface displays a deep-magenta-to-pink iridescent nacre. Coquille color refers to a freshly opened Pecten maximus shell-interior in raking light: a saturated, slightly cool deep magenta with the iridescent satin finish of structurally colored aragonite-nacre. The shell is the heraldic symbol of Saint James of Compostela.
