Effulgent Cardoon
Effulgent Cardoon (#7EF3BF) is a soft teal with a cool character. It leans cool, sitting on the blue, green, and violet side of the wheel. Quiet and dependable, a fit for product UI and data visualization. Its HSL profile (153°, 83%, 72%) places it in the highly saturated band at a light lightness. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. For a confident two-color system, pair it with its complementary magenta. For something softer, pull in its analogous neighbors on either side of the wheel.
Etymology
Latin effulgēns, shining-out — present-participle of effulgere, sharing root with fulgor (lightning). As a color modifier, effulgent implies a saturated-and-radiating-light-out quality, the bright color of Renaissance-Madonna halo-and-aureole gold-leaf-and-pigment emission. Sits at the bright-and-saturated end of the grid, parallel to resplendent and radiant in usage.
Cynara cardunculus, the Mediterranean thistle — relative of the globe artichoke (C. cardunculus var. scolymus) — with deeply lobed silver-green foliage and architectural form. The color refers to mature cardoon foliage in a kitchen garden: a soft, slightly cool silver-green-blue with the matte finish of large pinnately lobed leaves.
