Stately Pistachio
Stately Pistachio (#7A9807) is a deep yellow with a jewel character. It carries the deep, saturated richness of a gemstone. Authoritative and slightly formal, it works well for type and heavy UI elements. Its HSL profile (72°, 91%, 31%) places it in the highly saturated band at a dark lightness. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. For a confident two-color system, pair it with its complementary indigo. For something softer, pull in its analogous neighbors on either side of the wheel.
Etymology
An adjectival form of state, condition of dignity. Used as a color modifier since the seventeenth century for the deep saturated jewel tones of formal ceremony — the deep blue of a robes-of-state, the deep red of a state-banquet velvet. Sits in the bold-and-formal corner alongside imperial and royal, with slightly less institutional weight.
Pistacia vera, the desert tree from western Asia whose green nut has been a delicacy in Iranian and Levantine cooking for at least three thousand years. The color refers to the cotyledon meat inside the shell: a soft, slightly muted yellow-green with the warmth of plant fat. Lighter than sage, deeper than mint, with the unmistakable association of a Sicilian gelato or a Persian pastry.
