Lucid Chrome
Lucid Chrome (#793002) is a deep orange with a jewel character. It carries the deep, saturated richness of a gemstone. Authoritative and slightly formal, it works well for type and heavy UI elements. Its HSL profile (23°, 97%, 24%) places it in the highly saturated band at a dark lightness. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. For a confident two-color system, pair it with its complementary azure. For something softer, pull in its analogous neighbors on either side of the wheel.
Etymology
Latin lūcidus, clear / bright — derived from lūx (light). As a color modifier, lucid implies a clear-and-readable quality where the hue is unambiguous and free of optical clutter. Sits at the crisp-and-clear end of the grid, parallel to pellucid and plain in usage.
Lead chromate (PbCrO₄) — the chrome orange pigment introduced in 1809, brilliant but heavily toxic and reactive. Largely replaced by cadmium pigments in the twentieth century. The color refers to a freshly mixed chrome-orange in a Victorian color-merchant's stock: a saturated, slightly red orange with the matte finish of lead-based pigment. Brighter than ochre.
