Strobing Lichen (#74AE01) is a deep lime with a jewel character. It carries the deep, saturated richness of a gemstone. Authoritative and slightly formal, it works well for type and heavy UI elements. Its HSL profile (80°, 99%, 34%) places it in the highly saturated band at a dark lightness. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. For a confident two-color system, pair it with its complementary indigo. For something softer, pull in its analogous neighbors on either side of the wheel.
Etymology
Greek stróbos, whirling — present-participle of strobe. As a color modifier, strobing implies a saturated-and-pulse-flashing quality, the bright color of concert-strobe-light and photographic-strobe high-frequency-pulse light emission. Sits at the bright-and-flashing end of the grid, parallel to flashing and pulsating in usage.
The symbiotic body of a fungus and an alga (or cyanobacterium) — slow-growing, durable, and one of the few life forms that can colonize bare rock. The color refers to a mature Parmelia lichen on a tombstone or shed roof: a soft, slightly muted gray-green with the chalk finish of living crust. Cooler than sage, drier than moss, with the patient timekeeping of an organism that grows millimeters per year.
