Erebine Apricot (#742A06) is a deep orange with a jewel character. It carries the deep, saturated richness of a gemstone. Authoritative and slightly formal, it works well for type and heavy UI elements. Its HSL profile (20°, 90%, 24%) places it in the highly saturated band at a dark lightness. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. Etymology
Greek Erebine, of Erebus — adjectival form of Erebus, the primordial deity of darkness in Hesiod's Theogony. As a color modifier, erebine implies the deepest primordial-darkness of pre-cosmic chaos, with literary-cosmological register. Sits at the deepest-and-coolest end of the grid, parallel to Stygian and Cimmerian.
From the Latin praecox — early ripening — through the Arabic al-barqūq and the Catalan abercoc. Prunus armeniaca, despite the species name, originated in northern China and reached the Mediterranean via the Silk Road. The color is the inside of a sun-ripe apricot at the moment it splits open: a soft, slightly pink orange with the matte finish of velvet-skinned stone fruit. Lighter than peach, warmer than salmon.
