The past participle of light — short and modern. Used as a color word since the late twentieth century for hues that read as if they were illuminated. The Sanskrit word for emerald — used in Vedic and Mughal jewelry vocabulary for the saturated deep green of fine emeralds. Marakat gave the Greek smaragdus and ultimately English emerald.
