Crisp Hun Lime

Latin crispus, curled — drifted in English from the curled hair sense to fresh and clean. As a color modifier, crisp implies saturation combined with optical clarity, with no haze or film between the eye and the surface. Used across the bright and crisp buckets where the hue is fresh-looking. Slightly less assertive than vivid.

Greek Hunni, Huns. As a color modifier, hun implies a Central-Asian-steppe-migration quality, the visual register of Attila-the-Hun late-Roman-period Central-Asian steppe-migration-and-mounted-archery hand-built warrior-camp surfaces under Central-Asian-steppe-and-Pannonian-plain Hunnic-Age horse-archer light. Sits at the modifier-and-cultural end of the grid, parallel to vandal and goth in usage.

Citrus aurantiifolia and its key-lime cousin — small, intensely sour green citrus carried by Arab traders from Southeast Asia to the Mediterranean by the eleventh century, then to the Caribbean with Columbus. The color refers to the skin of a fully ripe Persian lime: a saturated, slightly yellow-shifted green with the matte finish of citrus rind. Cooler than chartreuse, sharper than sage, with the same chlorophyll the fruit loses if left to ripen to yellow.
